Can You Believe it is 35%??

More than 1 in 3.

That is a large percentage. You can get to the Baseball Hall of Fame on those numbers.

Can you imagine taking a room of 100 people and then telling 35 of them to GET OUT because you couldn’t care less about them?

Hey 35 people, just get out and don’t take anything on your way!

Our church has been guilty of ignoring the 35 in our past. But, no more!

Who and what am I talking about? According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, 35% of our country’s adults work on the weekends. 35 percent. If that seems like a lot. It is because… (wait for it)… it IS a lot.

“Back in the day” there were “blue laws” based on sabbatical principles that kept establishments closed on Sundays and allowed people to at least have the option of attending a church service if they so chose. Those days are long gone. But too many churches are still living in those “days” hoping that the society will adapt to them instead of the other way around.

If you didn’t know, Faith has brought the weekend to the week. We have brought Sunday morning to Thursday night. For us, Thursday is the new Sunday. We are not satisfied with turning away 35% of our community and telling them that they need to change jobs to be with us. We just change our job to be with them.

Jesus triumphantly offers rescue for 100%, not just the 65% of people who are fortunate enough to have off on the weekend. In addition, we all know that percentage SKYROCKETS when we add in sporting events, beach trips, hunting season, etc. This is a total guess, but I really believe that weekend work + weekend sports bumps the percentage above 50%. Now we are talking about turning our back on more than half of everybody. Totally unacceptable.

I would like to challenge ALL CHURCHES to contemplate adding a weeknight worship experience to your schedule. And I am not talking about one of those Wednesday night add-on services that are for the Sunday people to come back again. I am talking about replicating Sunday on another time so the 35% can actually have the option to worship with you.

I would also like to challenge ALL CHRISTIANS to open your eyes to the 35% in your life that have no ability to join you in worship on a Sunday. Research a church in your area that is doing a non-Sunday service and promote it to them. Break the ice by offering your time to go with them and check it out together.

It is time to stop neglecting 35% of our country.

If you are reading this and you are a part of the 35%, I would like to humbly invite you to worship with me on Thursday nights at Faith Baptist Church at 6:45p. We will be there every single Thursday, all year long, except for Thanksgiving.

WE ARE FOR all 100%.
